What is Blanket Coverage?

A single limit of coverage that applies across multiple items, locations, or categories rather than scheduling each one individually.

Full Definition

Blanket coverage provides a single limit that applies across multiple items, locations, or categories of property. Instead of scheduling individual buildings or equipment with separate limits, blanket coverage allows the total limit to be applied to any covered item or location. This eliminates the risk of being underinsured at one location while over-insured at another. Blanket coverage is common in commercial property (covering multiple buildings), inland marine (covering multiple pieces of equipment), and personal articles (covering categories of jewelry or art). Blanket coverage typically costs slightly more than scheduled coverage but provides significantly more flexibility at claim time.
